The NBC series “Smash” keeps growing.

Only a month removed from announcing that the drama starring Debra Messing would offer a mini “Will & Grace” reunion with the addition of Sean Hayes, NBC has announced two more cast members: “Hairspray” star Nikki Blonsky and Jesse L. Martin, who was part of the Tony Award-winning cast of “Rent.”

[For the record, 12:05 p.m., Sept 18: The headline on an earlier version of this post misspelled Nikki Blonky’s first name as Nicki.]

Details on Blonsky’s role were unavailable, but Martin (who may look most familiar to viewers as Det. Ed Green on TV’s “Law and Order”) will portray the head of the fictitious Manhattan Theatre Workshop in a six-episode arc that should include some singing. Blonsky has also previously appeared on TV in the ABC Family series “Huge.”

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson was also previously announced as joining “Smash,” which will return under a new showrunner since the departure of Theresa Rebeck after a first season that failed to live up to the show’s name.

“Smash” will return to the airwaves as a midseason replacement in 2013.
