“One Day At a Time’s” Bonnie Franklin diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
Actress Bonnie Franklin, who played the divorced, single mom Ann Romano in the CBS sitcom “One Day At a Time,” has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Franklin, 68, is currently undergoing treatment and remains “extremely postive,” her family said in a statement released by CBS.
“One Day At a Time, which co-starred Valerie Bertinelli and Mackenzie Phillips, debuted in 1975 and ran for 9 years. It explored then cutting edge social issues about family and feminism and remains an iconic TV comedy.
Franklin has also done theater. She received a Tony nomination in 1970 for her role in the original Broadway production of “Applause.” She also appeared in the plays “Dames at Sea” and “A Thousand Clowns.”
More recently, Franklin reunited with Bertinelli in “Hot in Cleveland, and has also appeared on “The Young and the Restless.”
Phillips and Bertinelli have been tweeting in suport of Franklin.
Wrote Bertinelli on Sept. 25: “She’s the kindest, smartest, bravest woman I know. Send some of your extra prayers to Bonnie please...”
