Emmy chat: Richard Cabral of 'American Crime' talks gangs, God and a new life
Richard Cabral plays Hector Tonz in ABC's "American Crime" joins us for a live chat and he's taking your questions. Post them here or tweet them using #askLATimes

Richard Cabral has seen his life journey take a sharp turn away from the drug addiction, gang life and prison time that once was his world. With some introspection, the help of Homeboy Industries, and maybe a little kick in the pants from God, Cabral found his way into Hollywood and now an Emmy nomination.

Cabral earned attention for his portrayal of Hector Tonz on ABC's explosive drama "American Crime." That Tontz is a former gang member trying to go straight helped Cabral get inside the character, he said in a visit to The Times. He was able to feel the character's pain and hurt.

"It hit me," he said. "It started talking about my personal life experiences, and it got me," he said of reading the script and understanding Tontz.
