Jeff Zucker in at CNN! Sen. Rockefeller has eye on News Corp.

The Skinny: When it is rainy like this I really just want to sit at home and listen to the drops hitting the ground and have hot soup. Instead I’m here for you! Thursday’s headlines include stories about Jeff Zucker’s new gig at CNN and a movie theater you can eat dinner at.

Daily Dose: Jeff Zucker’s taking over at CNN (see below) will have some folks wondering whether the cable news channel will eventually relocate to New York. Zucker succeeds Jim Walton, who had been based in Atlanta. Zucker, though, will be based in New York and many of CNN’s shows are done from there. If CNN doesn’t move, the big winner may be Delta Airlines as Zucker will be racking up those miles.

Pass the popcorn and the Grey Poupon. Movie theater chain AMC is opening a dine-in theater in Marina del Rey. Among the food available will be gourmet burgers and Thai Bang shrimp tacos, with prices ranging from $6.99 to $15.99. Ticket prices will be higher as well. And just think of the lovely smells that will fill the theater while you try to concentrate on the movie. I’ll pass. More on AMC’s plans from the Los Angeles Times.

Breaking news. CNN Worldwide has tapped former NBCUniversal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker as its new president. Zucker succeeds Jim Walton, who is leaving CNN at the end of the year. Zucker had been the front runner for the job pretty much since Walton said he was stepping down. Time to crack down. A much-anticipated government report that grew out of the News Corp. tabloid ethics scandal in Britain calls for tougher oversight of media there and expressed concerns about the coziness between some politicians and the media. More on the report from the Guardian.

Keeping an eye out. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), chairman of the powerful Senate Commerce Committee, said he is concerned that media giant News Corp.’s bad behavior in Britain may have happened here as well. News Corp.’s British tabloids have been probed for all sorts of illegal behavior in search of scoops. “I remain deeply concerned that these companies may have violated U.S. laws and injured U.S. citizens,” Rockefeller said in a statement to NBC News.

Tell us how you really feel. Kevin Reilly, the head of entertainment for Fox Broadcasting, is never at a loss for words. At an industry luncheon Wednesday, Reilly said much of the TV industry has “our head up our ass.” Well, that would explain why so many bad shows got on the air this season.
