The Skinny: Time to break out the sweaters! Fall is finally here. Thursday’s headlines include a standoff between Time Warner Cable, Cox and DirecTV over a new sports channel. Oprah Winfrey is developing a series for HBO and Seth Rogen is going on Home Shopping Network to sell a movie.

Foul! Time Warner Cable’s new Los Angeles regional sports channel SportsNet, which will be home to the Lakers, is having trouble getting distribution deals done. Cox and DirecTV went public with the status of negotiations with Time Warner Cable. Both said they offered to carry the channel on a specialty tier with other sports networks but Time Warner Cable wants SportsNet available to all subscribers. More from the Los Angeles Times.

Doesn’t she have enough on her plate? Oprah Winfrey, who for awhile was focusing primarily on fixing OWN, the cable network she launched with Discovery Communications, is now developing a family drama for HBO. Winfrey’s production company Harpo has long had a deal with HBO but given how pressing it is to pump up OWN, some will no doubt wonder why she didn’t giver her own network this hot project. Details on the show from the Hollywood Reporter.

What did he know? The BBC scandal over whether it was trying to cover up accusations that its late personality Jimmy Savile had molested young girls continues to widen. Britain’s Parliament is now investigating the BBC -- which this year quashed a documentary investigating Savile -- and wants to know what former BBC Chairman Mark Thompson knew. Thompson resigned from the BBC this year and has accepted the chief executive role at the New York Times. More on the story from the New York Times. That must have been a fun one to write.

‘Access Hollywood,’ ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and HSN? Used to be a movie star with a film to promote would make the rounds on the late night talk shows, the entertainment magazines and maybe Ellen DeGeneres’ show. But Variety says Seth Rogen is taking it a step further by going on Home Shopping Network to promote “Guilt Trip.” Hey if you have to sell, what better place to sell on than HSN?
