Emmys 2012: Julia Louis-Dreyfus celebrates awards and politics

Since she plays a vice president on “Veep,” it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ TV lineup includes a lot of news coverage.

“What do I watch?” she mused, contemplating a reporter’s question backstage after taking home the top comedy actress prize. “ ‘Colbert, ‘The Daily Show,’ ‘Meet the Press,”Face the Nation,’ CSPAN.”

All of the ongoing political coverage has influenced the narrative of her HBO show, the actress said.

“It’s an amazing time in politics,” she said. “It seems front-and-center right now in our lives, and there’s a lot of good, rich material out there from which to glean -- and not parody. But [there are] little morsels that we can take away almost every day, it seems.”

As for how she plans to celebrate her third Emmy win, Louis-Dreyfus said she was excited to take her 15-year-old son out on the town.

“It’s very exciting that he’s here -- he’ll go to the Governors Ball with us, and then he’ll go home because he has school tomorrow,” she explained. “Then my husband and I will go out on the town and live it up a little, for sure.”
