After the coffee. Before seeing if I can get Jay-Z as my agent.

The Skinny: The video obtained by ESPN showing Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice abusing his players is tough to watch. But if you see it, look for an assistant handing Rice another basketball after he hurls the one in his hand at one of his players. Wonder what that job pays. Wednesday’s stories include a look at Vice Media, Jimmy Fallon is getting a new deal and Jay-Z wants to play Jerry Maguire.

Daily Dose: It’s been a grim 2012-13 TV season for the broadcast networks. Through 27 weeks, only CBS is up in viewers and that’s by just 1%. CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox are all down in adults 18-49. Fox in particular is having a tough go of it. Its prime time audience average is 7.1 million viewers, a 21% decline from last season. Fox is also down almost 20% in adults 18-49, which can be attributed in large part to the disappointing year “American Idol” is having.

A life of Vice. Shane Smith looks more like an aging roadie than a budding media mogul and globe-trotting foreign correspondent. But the 43-year-old co-founder and CEO of Vice Media is both of those things. Once best known for its hipster magazine Vice, the company now has revenue approaching $200 million and a valuation of almost $1 billion. Now it wants to become the primary news source for the millennial generation and has a new show premiering on HBO later this week. A look at Smith and Vice from the Los Angeles Times and New Yorker.

Made in China. Viacom’s Paramount Pictures is partnering with a Chinese-government run channel to co-produce the next “Transformers” movie there. U.S. studios are willing to enter into such pacts because getting films into China is crucial because of the potential box office revenue. More on the partnership from Variety and Reuters.

Is this still going on? NBC is giving Jimmy Fallon a new deal but still isn’t ready to announce when he might replace Jay Leno as host of “The Tonight Show.” Meanwhile speculation is starting that Seth Meyers, another “Saturday Night Live” alumni is being eyed for Fallon’s time slot. Nothing against Meyers, but maybe NBC should cast a wider net. How about wooing Dave Chappelle back to TV or convincing Amy Poehler and Tina Fey to host their own show? The latest on late night from the New York Times and Hollywood Reporter.

Show him the money! Jay-Z apparently is a fan of “Jerry Maguire.” The rapper and producer is looking to become a sports agent and has signed Yankees star Robinson Cano as a client. Jay-Z’s company Roc Nation is working with Creative Artists Agency on the new venture. It’s not like Cano had a lightweight before Jay-Z. He had been represented by Scott Boras, considered to be one of the most aggressive agents working. The Wall Street Journal on Jay-Z’s new job.

Like! Netflix Chief Executive Reed Hastings isn’t going to get in trouble with the Securities and Exchange Commission for disclosing subscriber information that could potentially move the company’s stock on his Facebook page. The issue was whether companies could use Facebook to disclose information to investors. Apparently it won’t be an issue as long as investors know to look there. Great, one more thing investors have to keep an eye on. Does Hastings have a Twitter account? Details on the ruling from Bloomberg.
