It’s official: Juanes, the Colombian pop superstar, will perform at the Grammy Awards show. His presence, though hardly surprising, likely will give the broadcast a ratings boost with Latino viewers.

He also performed Wednesday evening at USC as part of the fourth annual “Grammy in the Schools Live! — A Celebration of Music & Education,” which showcased several high school music-training and education initiatives that are supported by the Grammy Foundation.

Juanes’ chart-topping record “MTV: Unplugged,” which won last year’s Latin Grammy album of the Year, is a leading contender to win the Grammy prize for Latin pop album. The singer-guitarist-songwriter also is the only Latin artist ‘s scheduled to perform at Friday’s 2013 Musicares Person of the Year tribute to Bruce Springsteen.

Juanes joins a wide slate of confirmed Grammy performers, including the Black Keys, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean and Elton John.

CBS will broadcast the Grammys live from Staples Center on Sunday, except on the West Coast, where they will begin at 8 p.m.
