David Beckham made his highly anticipated U.S. debut on Saturday by playing a mere 16 minutes in the L.A. Galaxy exhibition match against English soccer team Chelsea with his perfectly coiffed wife, Victoria (a.k.a. Posh Spice), watching.

But the British couple had their real L.A. coming-out the next night at the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Geffen Contemporary gallery downtown, as helicopters zoomed overhead, paparazzi swarmed and police kept the rubberneckers at bay. Posh, without her ubiquitous oversized sunglasses, showed off her ultra-thin frame in a short black dress, as did host Jada Pinkett Smith, whose husband, Will Smith, color-coordinated with Becks in a silver suit. Fellow host Katie Holmes upstaged them all in a dramatic strapless red vintage Galanos gown. Her hubby, Tom Cruise, flew in from the set of his latest film, “Valkyrie,” in Germany, to host the welcome-to-L.A. party for their BFFs.

Other Hollywood royal couples included Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, and Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy, the last of whom sat next to the Beckhams at the Cruise-Holmes wedding. Newly married Eva Longoria, sans husband Tony Parker, also attended the invite-only bash and cheered on Beckham at the Home Depot Center, as did Mary-Kate Olsen, Alicia Silverstone and Gov. Schwarzenegger.

“American Idol” producer Simon Fuller, who managed the Spice Girls, showed up to support Posh, who is launching her own Stateside career with her currently airing fish-out-of-water reality TV show on NBC and plans for a Spice Girls reunion. Other well-wishers included industry types like Brian Grazer, A-list actors like Bruce Willis and R&B star Rihanna, all of whom grooved to a DJ inside the transformed warehouse space. Guests noshed on American classics such as burgers and fries and British comfort food bangers and mash. To further the transcontinental theme, British and American flags flew over the valet stand.
