Matt Bendik, ‘Glee’ star Becca Tobin’s boyfriend, found dead

“Glee” star Becca Tobin’s boyfriend Matt Bendik has been found dead in Philadelphia.

Bendik’s death was confirmed by Tobin’s publicist, Emily Yomtobian, who had no additional information to share with The Times on Friday morning.

Police were called to Philadelphia’s Hotel Monaco early Thursday afternoon and pronounced a man dead a few minutes after arrival, law enforcement told the Associated Press.

Bendik, 31, was a nightclub entrepreneur and Cornell University graduate whose efforts included DBA Hollywood. “Imagination is more important than knowledge,” reads the description on his Instagram page, which includes numerous shots of himself with 28-year-old Tobin, the most recent posted in June.

The nightclub posted a picture online Thursday of its marquee, which read, “We love you Matt.”

Tobin has played catty cheerleader Kitty Wilde on Fox’s musical comedy series since 2012.

According to TMZ, which first reported the news, Bendik had been in Philadelphia on business. Though it was initially reported that the actress came along on the trip, a later update said she wasn’t. Law enforcement sources told the website that no foul play or suicide was suspected, and that no drugs, drug paraphernalia or weapons were found in his hotel room.

Unfortunately, Bendik’s death eerily echoes that of Cory Monteith, the “Glee” star whose body was found in a Vancouver, Canada, hotel room almost exactly a year ago, though in that case evidence of drug and alcohol use was found on the scene. Monteith’s death was later ruled an accidental heroin and alcohol overdose. He’d been in a relationship with “Glee” actress Lea Michele.

Tobin’s manager, Ricky Rollins, told the AP on Friday that “with respect to both the Bendik and Tobin families, there is no comment at this time.”

On Wednesday, Bendik had posted a lovely shot of Tobin on his Instagram, captioning it simply “#WCW” -- “woman crush Wednesday.”
