Beyonce drops out of Clint Eastwood’s ‘A Star Is Born’

Beyonce won’t be hitting the stratosphere for Clint Eastwood, as the singer announced Wednesday she was no longer available to star in his adaptation of “A Star Is Born.”

“For months we tried to coordinate our schedules to bring this remake to life but it was just not possible. Hopefully in the future we will get a chance to work together,” Mrs. Jay-Z said in a statement.

It’s been a long road for the film, which has had previous incarnations starring the likes of Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland.

Beyonce and Eastwood were paired on the project in January 2011, with the production spending nearly two years vetting a worthy leading man to play the seasoned industry vet who falls in love with an ingenue. Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Bradley Cooper were all considered.

Delays also came when Beyonce’s own little star, Blue Ivy Carter, was born in January.

Eastwood made headlines at the end of summer for an appearance at the Republican National Convetion, speaking at length to an empty chair meant to represent the president. He also starred in the recent “Trouble With the Curve” alongside Amy Adams.

Beyonce did her own part for politics, hosting a fundraiser for President Obama in New York with Jay-Z. She’ll head back to work on a follow-up album to 2011’s “4,” as well as production on a documentary-style film about her life and career.
