‘DWTS’ alum Chad Johnson in custody on alleged probation violation

Share

Chad Johnson was taken into custody in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Monday after allegedly violating his probation following his 2012 domestic violence case.

The ex-NFL wide receiver and “Dancing With the Stars” alum was arrested on suspicion of violating his one-year probation, following his domestic violence conviction last September after he was accused of head-butting his now ex-wife, reality star Evelyn Lozada, during an argument in August 2012, Sports Now reports.

The 35-year-old allegedly failed earlier this month to report to his probation officer twice and failed to show proof of enrollment in a domestic violence education class, TMZ reported. There was an arrest warrant issued for him earlier this month when he allegedly failed to meet the probation officer, according to the Associated Press.

Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, is said to have told the Broward County judge that the whole thing was a misunderstanding.

“I didn’t do any of this on purpose and I’ve been doing everything I was supposed to do. That’s all,” he said in court.

The judge said he completed only 19 classes but should have completed the whole course by last March and still has seven classes remaining.

“I’m perplexed why he’s not done,” the judge said.

The judge ruled that he was in violation of his probation and had him arrested and jailed. Johnson was then booked on a $1,000 bond and his next hearing was set for June 3.
