Colin Farrell crazy for Chris Walken at ‘Seven Psychopaths’ debut

As a leading man, Colin Farrell hasn’t had a fantastic run at the box office over the last few years.

This summer, his action-hero turn in the “Total Recall” reboot sold a disappointing number of tickets, and things went even more disastrously when he played a vampire in “Fright Night” last year.

Fortunately, the 36-year-old’s latest film seems to fall right in his wheelhouse: a quirky ensemble comedy from his “In Bruges” writer-director, Martin McDonagh, called “Seven Psychopaths.” The film stars Farrell as a struggling screenwriter who finds inspiration for his story when his friends — played by Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken — steal a Shih Tzu.

That dog, a rescue animal named Bonnie who was trained in a mere five weeks for the movie, walked the red carpet at the film’s premiere in Westwood on Monday night. While the perfectly groomed pup garnered a lot of attention from adoring fans, the real star of the evening seemed to be Walken.

Both Farrell and Rockwell paid tribute to their costar by sporting T-shirts decorated with a caricature of the 69-year-old actor.

“We got [the shirts] made when we were doing the film, because the paparazzi were hanging around us and we said, ‘Let’s get Chris Walken T-shirts and get our picture taken for the paparazzi ....’ We were bored.”

As for Walken, 69, the veteran actor rushed down the press line, eager to get inside the movie theater. He had little to say to reporters, except for when he spotted Bonnie:

“Great dog,” he said in his thick Queens accent.
