Jennifer Garner discusses Ben Affleck’s parts and her own ‘baby bump’
Never let it be said Jennifer Garner never gave you anything. Presuming, of course, you’re among those who’ve taken in the hit flick “Gone Girl,” in which her husband Ben Affleck gives a little full-frontal flash.
“What I have to say is, you’re welcome,” Garner told the audience on Wednesday’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” her voice light and her gestures sweeping. “You know, I try to consider myself a charitable person, and I wanted to give back. You give me so much; I wanted to give something back to all of you.”
The actress, who actually has two films coming out to her husband’s one blockbuster, said she and Affleck talked about his revealing moment -- but only after the fact.
“It was like, ‘Hey, you know, at work today Fincher talked me into coming out of the shower,’” she said, imitating Affleck’s voice. “I was like, ‘Oh, cool. I hope he had on a wide lens.’”
She said yes, the “Gone Girl” shower scene was her hubby’s first full-frontal nudity on camera “outside of our very racy films” made at home. Hear that in a deadpan delivery, please.
Alas, Garner’s not that much of a giver. Movie-goers apparently have to work pretty hard to catch a glimpse of the goods. Still, um, it’s the thought that counts?
The “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” actress -- whose other new film, “Men, Women & Children” is opening in four theaters this week, she said, before going wide Oct. 17 -- also did a little rumor-busting. Well, more like rumor confirmation.
“Apparently, I have a baby bump,” the mother of three told DeGeneres. “And I’m here to tell you that I do. I do have a baby bump.”
Cue the wild hoots, hollers and applause from the audience.
But Garner wasn’t quite done explaining what’s typically seen as a sign that there’s a celebrity baby on board.
“Hold up, hold right up,” she said. “I am not pregnant. But I have had three kids and there is a bump. From now on ladies, I will have a bump. And it will be my baby bump, and let’s just settle in and get used to it. It’s not going anywhere. I have a bump. Its name is Violet, Sam, Sera.”
Of course, one publication that excitedly waved the “She’s pregnant” flag around the end of summer more recently called Garner out for flashing her Spanx at the “Alexander” premiere.
Sometimes a girl just can’t win.
