Nina Dobrev has split with her "Vampire Diaries" costar Ian Somerhalder.
It's too bad that whole "sire bond" thing doesn't work in real life.
The pair took their relationship public in 2011 and are said to remain "consummate professionals" and "will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started," a source told Us. So that means no more cutesy, lovey-dovey photos between them on social media?!
"I didn't want to be dating one of my costars -- my goal on the show was to be professional," Dobrev told Seventeen magazine last fall. "But sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long -- which I did for a really, really long time."
The two had stepped out together last April, calling themselves "parents" when they made a late-night visit to a pet hospital for Dobrev's cat. She posted a pretty adorable picture of Somerhalder posing with her coned feline. Later in the month, she posted another pic for throwback Thursday of her vamped up with a shirtless Somerhalder. Earlier this week, Dobrev attended the Costume Institute's Met Gala solo.
"The Vampire Diaries", which stars a bevy of good-looking actors, is currently airing the final episodes of its fourth season and has been renewed by the CW for a fifth season. So they'll still be seeing quite a bit of each other.
Dobrev has admitted that her characters' philanderous ways sometimes makes things awkward on set. She plays multiple versions of two characters on the hit series. One version also happened to be in love with Damon's brooding brother, Stefan. Her alter-ego Katherine has pretty much had a go with nearly every guy on the show too.
And for those gunning for the real-life manifestation of the Stefan-Elena relationship, our apologies. Dobrev's costar Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, is married.
Somerhalder, a former model, also played Boone on "Lost." Dobrev has also appeared in Canadian teen drama "Degrassi" and costarred with Emma Watson in 2012's "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."
The Bulgarian beauty is set to next appear in the comedy "Let's Be Cops," with James D'Arcy, Damon Wayans Jr. and "New Girl's" Jake Johnson.
