Reese Witherspoon goes from legally blond to brunet

Reese Witherspoon is a brunet! The Academy Award-winning actress has gone to the dark side and dyed her signature legally blond tresses brown.

Witherspoon was spotted in Nashville over the weekend with the new ‘do pulled back in a messy bun and sported her signature wispy bangs. She was photographed with husband Jim Toth, toting around their 6-month old son, Tennessee, according to E! News.

The actress most notably went for a darker shade as part of her award-winning role in 2005’s “Walk the Line,” in which she played Johnny Cash love interest June Carter. This time around, she made the change for her role in the refugee drama “The Good Lie,” People reported.

According to IMDb, the actress has completed production on the crime drama “Devil’s Knot” but is slated to appear in “Wish List” this year and “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” next year.

The 37-year-old’s mane gave rise to an April Fools’ Day prank from daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

“Reese Witherspoon isn’t the only one who’s gone brunette,” DeGeneres wrote, posting a Twitpic of herself mimicking the color on her short hair.

DeGeneres later took back the tweet, saying, “Okay, so I didn’t dye my hair brown. That was an April Fools’ joke. I dyed it red,” and posting another selfie as a redhead with a photo of “Desperate Housewives” star Marcia Cross.

Not going to lie, we’d love to see Witherspoon as a redhead next. Either way, she’d definitely be better off than a permed Bradley Cooper.
