Black-and-white horror movie classic and nightmare-fueling “Night of the Living Dead” from George Romero has been expanded. Fans clamoring for more classic zombies can check out our exclusive premiere of the new undead comic line set in the same world as Romero’s classic movie.

Double Take, or 2T, got a jump on the Halloween horror comics rush by releasing 10 first issues of its “Ultimate Night of the Living Dead” universe Wednesday.

“Originally, we were thinking of trickling out a couple of series every month or so, building up our roster over time,” 2T General Manager Bill Jemas said.

“Now we’re planning to launch our new universe in one big bang.”

The universe Jemas mentions is one built from Romero’s classic 1968 horror standard “Night of the Living Dead.” The comics titles are an homage, but no one affiliated with the film is in any way involved in the creation of the stories. The influential film introduced the splatter genre and Romero continued the story through numerous sequels, including “Dawn of the Dead,” “Day of the Dead,” “Land of the Dead,” “Diary of the Dead” and “Survival of the Dead.”

In late March 2015, 2T announced the first three books of the series (“Rise,” “Home” and “Z-Men”). The seven new comics recently released continue telling the stories of Romero’s world. In the final image of the attached gallery, a map lays out where in Pennsylvania the books actually take place. The company also launched a Kickstarter campaign in support of the “Ultimate Night of the Living Dead” line.

Jemas is not only the general manager of 2T but also writes a few of the series that are being offered, including “Honor” -- and Hero Complex has exclusive images from that release. On that title, the company’s tagline for the book reads: Protect. Serve. Beat. Burn.
