Doherty is cast as Jenny Wilder on “Little House: A New Beginning.” “I mean, when you work for Michael Landon, it doesn’t get any better than that,” she said about the experience. In 1986, Doherty is on the NBC show “Our House.” Times critic Howard Rosenberg wrote: "[Wilford Brimley’s] first-rate supporting cast includes Doherty as Kris, the 15-year-old with whom Gus has some very appealing moments in the premiere.” (Lions Gate)
April 1989

“Heathers” comes out, with Doherty as Heather No. 2, the Heather with an “urge to purge.” Among her famous lines: “I prayed for the death of Heather Chandler many times, and I felt bad everytime I did it, but I kept doing it anyway. Now I know you understood everything. Praise Jesus, Hallelujah.” (New World Pictures)

“I Hate Brenda,” the anti-Brenda/Shannen zine written by a group of L.A. friends, is published, spawning bumper stickers, T-shirts and a novelty album (“Hating Brenda”).

“It’s a little hurtful,” Doherty said, remembering the experience. Darby Romeo, the newsletter’s co-creator, wrote in an e-mail, “I think we were given more credit for the whole mini-phenomenon then we deserved or wanted; we gave the backlash a focus.” ()

Doherty, then 22, marries Ashley Hamilton, whom she had been dating ... not very long. According to Entertainment Weekly, the marriage lasted 195 days. Doherty said: “Do I look back and go, ‘Shannen, what were you thinking? What were you thinking?’ Yeah, of course I do.” (Stewart Volland)

October 1995

In her post-"90210" life, one early effort is playing Jason Lee’s ex-girlfriend in “Mallrats.”

“I got to work with Kevin Smith,” said Doherty about this time in her career. “I got to do work that was really, to me, fulfilling.” (Con Keyes / Los Angeles Times)

“Charmed” begins, to the WB’s best ratings for a premiere ever. In Entertainment Weekly, Ken Tucker wrote: “‘Charmed’ is a bit thin in the plot department; the main things it has going for it are the sisters’ pulchritude and the presence of Doherty, who is that rare item: a TV star who succeeds on the strength of her vitriol. Perennially crabby, delivering her lines as if she has contempt for them -- Prue? Shannen? Where does one end and the other begin? -- curt, cranky Doherty gives ‘Charmed’ its kick.” (Richard Cartwright)
Beverly Hills, 90210 --
May 2000

“90210" ends without closure for Brenda’s many fans. “Really, not enough time had gone by for me to look at that character objectively,” Doherty said. “I think it’s better that we skipped that part. You know? She went off to London -- why would she come back so soon?” (Fox)
