Sure, they have their guild awards and their own categories at the Oscars, but consider how often you can name the lead actor in a movie or even its director. And the writer? That’s usually a giant leap down the memory scale. Yet we quote lines from movies to our friends incessantly — “I’ll be back,” “There’s no crying in baseball,” “I drink your milkshake!” — those didn’t come from the actor or director. So, in a small nod to all the hard-working but overlooked screenplay scribes, here’s a quiz about some of the memorable lines from this year’s crop of best picture nominees.
