Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular: This new special features a New York-size fireworks show. Nick Lachey hosts this year’s show, and Beyoncé and Brad Paisley are among the scheduled performers (9 and 10 p.m. NBC).

Citizen U.S.A.: A 50-State Road Trip: HBO presents this uplifting documentary from Alexandra Pelosi about some of the nearly 1 million people who seek to become U.S. citizens every year. Madeleine Albright, Henry Kissinger and Gene Simmons discuss why they chose America as their home (9 p.m. HBO).

Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular: Michael Chiklis, a native of nearby Lowell, Mass., hosts the festivities as Keith Lockhart conducts the orchestra in a patriotic program (10 p.m. CBS).

Platoon: Oliver Stone drew on his own experience as an infantryman in Vietnam for this gritty 1986 drama starring Charlie Sheen, Berenger and Willem Dafoe, Forest Whitaker and Kevin Dillon (8 p.m. Cinemax).
