Perry is up for 9 VMAs

Katy Perry’s “Firework” had enough sparks to help her claim a leading nine MTV Video Music Award nominations, including video of the year.

Perry — who hosted the network’s Wednesday night special announcing the nominations — was also nominated for best female video for “Firework,” and best pop video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”

Adele tied Kanye West with seven nominations. The bestselling Brit will compete with Perry for top video with “Rolling in the Deep.” Others in the category include the Beastie Boys for “Make Some Noise”; rapper Tyler, the Creator for “Yonkers”; and Bruno Mars for “Grenade.”

‘Man of Steel’ moved back

Superman will fly later than initially planned. Warner Bros. announced Wednesday that it will release Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” on June 14, 2013, not December 2012, as it had previously planned.

A studio spokeswoman declined to offer a reason for the shift; in fact, she said it was not a change, pointing out that the reboot had never been given an official release date.

However it’s characterized, the new date does clear some space between the studio’s major releases: Warner Bros. will bring out the first edition of Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” adaptation in December 2012; had it come out in December 2012, “Man of Steel” could have competed for studio resources and also gone after a similar audience.

Starring Henry Cavill as the titular character, the new take on the caped hero is being guided by Christopher Nolan, who is producing and godfathering the project. He’ll now have a little more time to work on the movie in the editing room after his “The Dark Knight Rises” hits theaters next July.

The actress was a series regular for the first seven seasons, playing tenacious forensic scientist Sara Sidle. Fox left at the beginning of Season 8 and returned only as a guest star the following seasons.

But now she’s coming back to Clark County for good, TV Line reported.

Fox will be starring alongside Ted Danson, who recently replaced outgoing Laurence Fishburne as head of the investigation team for the procedural during the CBS show’s 12th-season shakeup.

R. Kelly is out

of the hospital

A spokesman for R. Kelly says the R&B star is out of the hospital following throat surgery earlier this week.

Spokesman Allan Mayer said Thursday that the 44-year-old singer left Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and is recuperating at his suburban home.

Mayer says it still isn’t clear when the Chicago-native might be well enough to resume performing.

The Grammy-winning singer had complained of throat pain and was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday. The same day, surgeons drained an abscess on one of his tonsils.

Cenk Uygur leaves MSNBC

The Cenk Uygur experiment at MSNBC is officially over, with the outspoken host exiting in the same voluble manner that characterized his time there.

Uygur, who had hosted the news program “MSNBC Live” during the 6 p.m. hour, has left the network after it had wanted to move him to a less prominent slot. The host went on his Internet show “The Young Turks” on Wednesday night to lash out at MSNBC brass, particularly President Phil Griffin.

“‘People in Washington are concerned about your tone,’” Uygur said Griffin told him. He said the network was too concerned with access to politicians and newsmakers at the expense of sound judgment.

MSNBC looks poised to hand the 6 p.m. “MSNBC Live” chair to Al Sharpton.
