Quick Takes: More ‘Anger Management’

Charlie Sheen’s “Anger Management” has managed a major renewal.

The FX comedy starring the fired star of “Two and a Half Men” has received a 90-episode order from the cable network. The order came as part of the original deal, contingent on the show’s ability to generate a designated viewership level over eight of its first 10 episodes.

The series, which features Sheen as a former athlete who becomes a therapist for a group of eccentric patients, will begin production of new episodes in September and will return to the network in January. Sheen’s father, Martin Sheen, best known for his leading roles in “Apocalypse Now” and ‘The West Wing,” will join the cast as the father of Sheen’s character.

Beanie Sigel arrested again

Rapper Beanie Sigel was arrested Wednesday on weapon and drug violations during a traffic stop, just two weeks before he is scheduled to report to prison for failing to file taxes, Pennsylvania state police said.

The 38-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwight Grant, was a passenger in a car pulled over on Interstate 95 in Tinicum Township, just south of his hometown of Philadelphia.

Police said they found a gun in the car’s console. Both Sigel and driver Gerald Andrews are felons banned from having such weapons, according to troopers.

Sigel’s latest album, called “This Time,” was released on Tuesday by Ruffhouse Records.

‘SNL’ guests set, but is the cast?

“Saturday Night Live” will launch its 38th season on Sept. 15 with host Seth MacFarlane and musical guest Frank Ocean.

It will mark the “SNL” debut for both MacFarlane, creator of “Family Guy” and writer-director of the raunchy summer hit, “Ted,” and Ocean, the rising R&B; star. Ocean already has found success at 30 Rockefeller Plaza: He wowed in his first TV performance this summer on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.”

Other confirmed talent includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who will host the show for the second time on Sept. 22 with musical guest Mumford & Sons, and Daniel Craig, who will host on Oct. 6, with his fellow countrymen Muse as musical guest.

What “SNL” has yet to announce is who will be replacing recently departed cast members Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abby Elliott, and whether Jason Sudeikis will be returning.

Adele’s ‘21’ falls out of top 10

Lascivious R&B; singer Trey Songz debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. pop charts, but the top 10 this week was more notable for who’s absent than who’s present.

Gone for the first time during its 79-week run was Adele’s “21,” which slipped from the ninth spot last week to No. 12 Wednesday. The young British soul star had a marvelous run, having now sold more than 9.7 million copies of “21” in the United States alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

With 78 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard rankings, the chart publisher said that “21” is tied with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Def Leppard’s “Hysteria” for the third-longest streak since the formation of the modern album charts in 1963.

Billboard reports that the only artist with a longer top-10 run is Bruce Springsteen, whose “Born in the USA” logged 84 weeks. The soundtrack to “The Sound of Music” was able to hit 109 weeks in the top 10.

As for Songz, “Chapter V” is the singer’s first No. 1 album. It opened with 135,000 copies sold, the only top-10 album to top six figures last week.

‘Amazing Race’ draws all sorts

Chippendales dancers, a double amputee, a former member of Megadeth and a lumberjack are among the latest batch of contestants on “The Amazing Race.”

The 11 teams competing in the series’ 21st race also include twin sisters, a gay goat-farming couple and married monster truck drivers.

In order to keep things fresh, the producers are introducing a new twist: If the team that wins the first leg of the race also wins the final leg, they will double the cash prize, taking home $2 million instead of $1 million.

The new race begins airing on CBS Sept. 30.

MJ’s children visit his old town

Michael Jackson’s son and daughter visited their father’s hometown of Gary, Ind., on what would have been the pop star’s 54th birthday.

The children, 14-year-old Paris and 15-year-old Prince, were given T-shirts by Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson as they posed for pictures Wednesday at a casino overlooking Lake Michigan.

Other events planned by the family in Gary include a dinner on Friday and a concert on Saturday.
