Two classic Gary Cooper westerns are moseying the DVD spotlight Tuesday. Olive Films is releasing the 60th-anniversary edition of “High Noon,” in which Cooper plays Will Kane, a lawman of a small Western town who is forced to confront a dangerous man he had sent to prison. Directed by Fred Zinnemann, produced by Stanley Kramer and penned by Carl Foreman, the allegorical western earned Coop his second best actor Oscar. Warner Archive is also releasing Cooper’s final western, 1959’s “The Hanging Tree.” Delmer Daves directed this unusual drama, which casts Cooper as a doctor in a mining town, circa 1873, with a shady past. Maria Schell, Karl Malden and George C. Scott in his film debut head the supporting cast.
