Jason Segel fields a sweet preemptive strike from Hillary Clinton

Hillary Rodham Clinton may be savvy with those text messages, but that doesn’t mean she’s abandoned the art of letter writing. Just ask Jason Segel.

The “How I Met Your Mother” actor chatted up Jimmy Fallon recently about the series’ longstanding mystery: the identity of the mother in question, the woman whom main character Ted (Josh Radnor) winds up with.

“Everyone always asks me, like on a red carpet or whatever, ‘Who is the mother?’ Because it’s been almost eight years ... ,” Segel told Fallon, “I always say Hillary Clinton as a joke. And then I got a letter in the mail.”

Nothing like hearing, unprompted, from the secretary of State.

“I was delighted to read about your interest in sharing the big screen with me. As you can imagine, I am a little occupied at the moment, but perhaps someday I can help you forget Sarah Marshall … again,” Clinton wrote in a note obtained by Politico.

“My only condition is that there be Muppets involved, and that is non-negotiable. In the meantime, you have my best wishes for continued success with your career.”

While Secretary Clinton won’t be stopping by “How I Met Your Mother” any time soon, you can still see a very funny, very fictional version of Bill’s wife pinging other famous folks with crazy swagger at Texts From Hillary. The blog, of course, declared the game over just a week in, after Clinton herself joined the party.
