Emmys 2012: Julia Louis-Dreyfus doesn’t jinx it on the red carpet

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has got it made. Not only was her new series “Veep” nominated for an Emmy for outstanding comedy series and she for lead actress in a comedy series, but superstar designer Vera Wang reached out to her, asking if she could design Louis-Dreyfus’ Emmy-night gown.

“She wanted to make something just for me,” Louis-Dreyfus said of her copper-colored gown, which showed off the actress’ toned arms to great effect.

Louis-Dreyfus was particularly excited about “Veep” because the show, which is on HBO, has enabled her to explore a racier side of comedy she finds new and enticing. Many of her favorite lines on the show are totally unprintable and would never have come out of the mouth of her famous alter-ego, Elaine Benes, on “Seinfeld.”

She’s also thrilled to have another hit on her hands, but said she can’t take the credit for “Veep’s” success.

“I have a lot of good luck and good fortune,” Louis-Dreyfus said. “And so much in show business is about luck.”

She paused to reflect a moment and then added hurriedly, “But I don’t want to jinx it!”

No worries, Julia: Lead actress in a comedy series is all yours.
