Chris Brown to appear in court for probation report

Just a day after Los Angeles County prosecutors accused Chris Brown of faking his community service hours, the embroiled R&B; star will appear before a judge.

With questions raised about his court-ordered community service, Brown will be in court Wednesday for an already-scheduled progress report, according to our news blog L.A. Now.

Prosecutors noted “significant discrepancies” in the hours Brown claimed to log according to the terms of his 2009 sentence for assaulting then (and likely current?) girlfriend Rihanna on the eve of the Grammys.

In a 19-page motion filed by Deputy Dist. Atty. Mary Murray and obtained by The Times, the judge was urged to reject Brown’s reported community service due to “at best sloppy documentation and at worst fraudulent reporting.”

Among the most damaging finds in the motion was that Brown claimed he had completed four hours of trash pickup from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on a particular day, but he was actually perched on a private plane headed to Cancun, which he boarded at 4 p.m.

On another day he claimed to be picking up trash in Richmond, Va., photographers were snapping pictures of the singer in Washington, D.C., where he hosted a charity event that raised funds for the developmentally disabled.

The motion did not ask a judge to find Brown in violation of his probation.

But just for good measure, the documents made note of Brown’s less-than-squeaky-clean track record following his 2009 sentencing, which includes tossing a chair through a glass window after a 2011 “Good Morning America” interview; an encounter in Miami, where Brown allegedly drove away with a cellphone from a fan who took a photo of him and his then-girlfriend in 2012; and his recent scuffle with fellow R&B; singer Frank Ocean at a West Hollywood studio. Yikes.

Brown is currently on five years’ probation after pleading guilty to a felony count of assault. As part of his probation, he was required to perform 180 days of community labor in Virginia. If he fails to complete his terms, he could be headed to jail.
