Cate Blanchett to be honored at the 27th Palm Springs International Film Festival

Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett will receive the 27th Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, for her performances in “Truth” and the upcoming “Carol.”

Blanchett will receive the honor at the Awards Gala, hosted by Mary Hart, Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

“Cate Blanchett is one of the most award-winning and outstanding actresses of her generation, delivering extraordinary performances throughout her career including her Academy Award-winning roles as Katharine Hepburn in ‘The Aviator’ and the title role in Woody Allen’s ‘Blue Jasmine,’’’ said festival chairman Harold Matzner in a statement.

“In her latest films ‘Carol’ and ‘Truth,’ Blanchett yet again brings to life two vibrant characters, both worth of awards recognition.”

Past recipients of the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, include Julianne Moore, who went on to win the Oscar for “Still Alice,” Sandra Bullock, Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron. Blanchett was previously honored at the festival with the Career Achievement Award and Ensemble Performance Award for “Babel.”

The Palm Springs International Film Festival will take place Jan 1-11.
