Sigur Ros to get animated for ‘The Simpsons’

Sigur Rós members are adding themselves to the long list of musicians who have gotten drawn into the crazy world of “The Simpsons.”

The Icelandic art rock outfit will guest star in and compose music for the long-running animated Fox sitcom.

In the episode, one of two airing May 19 as the season finale, Carl – Homer’s affable bestie whose are-they-aren’t-they friendship with Lenny is among the show’s countless inside jokes – will run off to his native home of Iceland with the lottery winnings he was supposed to split with Homer, Lenny and Moe.

Expect hijinks, plenty of jokes about Carl’s African-Icelandic roots and a run-in with the famous band who hails from the capital, Reykjavík.

The band has composed original music for the episode, and is expected to cover the iconic Danny Elfman theme song that plays on the show’s opening credits, according to a report from Iceland’s Morgunblaðið, the country’s daily newspaper.

Over the show’s unprecedented, nearly 25-year run – it’s currently in its 24th season, a who’s-who of musicians have appeared on the show or contributed music, including the Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Lenny Kravitz, James Brown, 50 Cent, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Katy Perry, Aerosmith, Sting, Elton John and Lady Gaga.
