Beyoncé runs Friday morning with ‘Lip Sync Battle’ cameo and Super Bowl speculation

Share

Beyoncé fans who weren’t tuned into Spike on Thursday awakened to a rush of giddy rejoicing when video of Her Highness making a surprise appearance on “Lip Sync Battle” lit up social media.

As actor-twerker Channing Tatum, wearing a black mini skirt and matching bra, worked his way through a ridiculously joyous take on Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls),” cameras captured her entering with a quartet of hot dancers. With the studio audience roaring, Beyoncé cat-walked to Tatum’s side and started grooving.

The clip’s gone viral, in the process pushing Spike’s meme-worthy competition series further into the pop culture conversion. Thursday’s season premiere pitted Tatum against his wife, actor and dancer Jenna Dewan-Tatum. After her bawdy routine to Ginuwine’s “Pony,” her hunky husband let loose, rocking with makeup and a Beyoncé-style wig.

“Lip Sync Battle” is the brainchild of actor-director John Krasinski (“The Office”) and is co-produced by actor-producer Stephen Merchant (co-creator of the original British version of “The Office). Season 1 became an unexpected hit when it debuted in 2015 with 18 episodes of performance-battles by celebrities including Anna Kendrick, Mike Tyson, Ann Hathaway, Terry Crews and Emily Blunt.

So far, announced battles for Season 2 will pit Kevin Hart against Olivia Munn, Anthony Anderson versus Tracee Ellis Ross, Chris D’Elia versus Brent Morin and Nina Dobrev versus Tim Tebow.

Thursday’s surprise Beyoncé appearance wasn’t the only news that her people were celebrating on Friday morning, though. With the Super Bowl about a month away, a report by Entertainment Weekly suggests that she’ll be joining confirmed halftime performer Coldplay at center stage.
