The kids of Staten Island’s PS22 elementary school are back in the pop spotlight with a spirited rendition of Garth Brooks’ recent comeback single “People Loving People.”

PS22 Choir director Gregg Breinberg, who in recent years has become a cause célèbre for the likes of Perez Hilton, Ashton Kutcher and My Chemical Romance’s Mikey Way for teaching pop songs to his students, leads the latest version of the PS22 Chorus in Brooks’ song that espouses harmony as the solution to the world’s problems.

A video of the performance was posted to YouTube on New Year’s Day, and Brooks quickly put it on his own Facebook page, where it’s generated a lot of enthusiastic feedback from fans.

The idea has also crossed the Atlantic, with another video version up and running from the Jacaranda School and Foundation in Malawi, which also can be viewed here on Brooks’ Facebook page.

Brooks has been featuring the song in his first national concert tour in 17 years, which reaches his native Oklahoma for a week of performances at the BOK Center in Tulsa starting Friday.

Fans have offered suggestions regarding the PS22 Chorus’ rendition, ranging from recommending that Brooks show the video while he performs the song to inviting the group to join him live onstage.
