‘Emily Owens, M.D.’ flatlines on the CW

The CW is going to be minus one doctor: The network is canceling freshman drama “Emily Owens, M.D.”

The series, which starred Meryl Streep spawn Mamie Gummer as a shy medical student who realizes adulthood is still awfully similar to high school, was not given a full-season order. But fans will get to see it finish its 13-episode run, as all will make it to air.

That the Tuesday rookie, which was paired with the network’s other medical soap “Hart of Dixie,” failed to earn a back nine order is not entirely surprising. The drama failed to find a pulse with viewers.

Its premiere drew a stunted 1.7 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo (to be fair, it faced some hefty competition with the American League Championship Series and the second presidential debate). And things didn’t get well soon. Its most recent episode brought in 1.4 million viewers.

But, hey, maybe this means more Gummer on “The Good Wife”?
