‘Veep’ with Julia Louis-Dreyfus wins a third season at HBO

“Veep”, HBO’s comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a fictional U.S. vice president, has been awarded a third term -- er, season.

Louis-Dreyfus last year won an Emmy for lead actress in a comedy for her role in the series, now in its second season. The show co-stars Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky and Kevin Dunn.

On “Veep,” Louis-Dreyfus plays Vice President Selina Meyer, a manic, self-absorbed leader who is all but shunned by the president. In addition to starring, the former “Seinfeld” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine” star is a producer on the series, which mixes physical and verbal comedy as well as political satire.

The series was created by Armando Iannucci, an Oscar nominee for co-writing “In The Loop,” a 2009 political satire featuring Peter Capaldi and James Gandolfini.
