Kevin Bacon apologizes for spoiling ‘The Following’ plot twist

Share

Kevin Bacon has learned the hard way the tricky dance of discussing current TV on social media without giving too much away. The actor and star of the Fox hit “The Following” issued an apology to his fans via Twitter on Tuesday after he unknowingly spoiled a major plot twist on his series for international viewers who hadn’t had a chance to see the most recent episode.

Beware, those of you who are still behind on the twisty-turny serial killer drama: Spoilers lurk below.

After the airing of the most recent episode, “The Curse,” a TV producer and director, Jodi Gomes, tweeted a compliment to Bacon and show creator Kevin Williamson. “@kevinbacon is a murderer too! Nice twist.”

Proud of the compliment, Bacon retweeted it to his more than 234,000 followers, some of whom live overseas and hadn’t had a chance to see the most recent episode in their home countries.

One can only imagine the torrent of anguished cries that were unleashed from his fans after that seemingly innocent retweet, but Bacon was quickly in damage control mode, posting a video of himself repeating over and over, “My bad.” Then following it up with another tweet, “To all the fans abroad and late watchers I’m truly sorry I retweeted a spoiler. I just wasn’t thinking. Won’t happen again. #MyBad.”

The series was picked up for a second season last month, so Bacon will have plenty more time to make things up to his fans. If only he can figure out the right things to say.
