Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning seemed to take cues from their characters when they dressed for the Hollywood premiere of “Maleficent” on Wednesday at the El Capitan Theatre.

Like the formidable title fairy she plays, Jolie was all in black. A rather wicked black too, given that the Atelier Versace gown was “rubberized,” according to the couturier. The strapless gown was gathered at the waist into a sweeping train. Jolie kept her hair simple, in a pulled-back long ponytail, the better to show off the dangerous-looking spikes in her earlobes.

Meanwhile, Fanning arrived in a sparkling and sweet lilac gown from Elie Saab haute couture, befitting Sleeping Beauty (whom she plays in the film). The off-the-shoulder, embellished gown featured a princess-like train. Fanning accessorized with a Neil Lane jeweled choker, and she wore her hair in a ladylike updo.

Juno Temple, who plays a pixie in the film, took a different tack altogether in a sassy black Dolce & Gabbana trouser suit and white blouse accented by a floppy bow at the neck. It was -- pixie-ish.

Meanwhile, despite her sorceress-like attire, Jolie was all smiles at the event -- even after a man attacked her fiance Brad Pitt on the red carpet. The man was identified as Vitalii Sediuk, who has a history of harassing celebrities and has been dubbed “the red carpet prankster.”

Sediuk was quickly taken into custody and the festivities continued.

The film opens in wide release on Friday.
