Shoe-hoo! Converse launches ‘Simpsons’ sneaker collection Saturday

Share

Converse and “The Simpsons” have collaborated on a collection of Chuck Taylor All Stars that hit retail on June 15.

It seems completely appropriate that the longest-running scripted prime-time series in the history of American television would team up with an athletic shoe brand that’s been kickin’ it in the U-S-of-A since 1908.

Consisting of “Simpsons” characters screen-printed on Converse’s iconic high-top silhouette, the $37 to $65 collection includes “The Homer,” depicting the visage of the cartoon family patriarch against a blue and black patterend background (with his exclamation “D’oh!” on one side of the rubber rands and “Woo Hoo!” on the other) and “The Bart” (available in both children’s and adult sizes) featuring the family’s eldest scrawling “I will not waste chalk,” on a blackboard (although you can’t see it in the above photo, this shoe also has a bright yellow lining).

The third style -- “The Family” -- is an all-in shoe that prominently features all five of the family members with many of Springfield’s residents rendered in light blue outline against a white background. (We particularly appreciate how Marge’s blue beehive makes use of the high-top’s vertical real estate.)

“The Simpsons” Chuck Taylor All Star collection will be available at Journeys and Converse retail stores and e-commerce sites starting Saturday.

We do have to take issue with one point, though. The announcement referred to the partnership as “the show’s first-ever footwear collaboration.” While that may technically be true, it’s an awfully fine splitting of hairs since we distinctly remember writing this story about a Vans tie-in with “The Simpsons Movie” back in 2007.
