Bomber jackets every man should own

Share

There’s a high-flying attitude in menswear right now, with the bomber jacket trending as the style of the season.

Based on gear developed for airmen in World War II, many versions replicate the standard-issue MA-1 with its ribbed waistband, pocket flaps and sleeve zipper detail. Other designers go a more minimalist route with a clean-lined rendition, the better to focus on luxe materials from suede to silk and patterns from graphics to graffiti.

Less costumey than its cousin the motorcycle jacket, the bomber has an easygoing masculine appeal, as Justin Timberlake winningly displayed in a recent media stop in New York to promote the movie “Trolls.” Bomber jackets, including riffs on the B-15 flight jacket, should be worn to fit snugly and help give a finished look, whether you’re wearing a T-shirt and jeans or a button-down and trousers.

With versions to suit everyday or nighttime occasions at price tags both affordable and aspirational, this fall it’s bombers away.
