The Oscars means a plethora of parties, before and after

The Academy Awards 2013 made for a glamour fest, as always, and Los Angeles Times fashion critic Booth Moore noted all the “Giorgio Armani gowns, Harry Winston bling and Veronica Lake waves on the red carpet Sunday.” [Los Angeles Times]

Jennifer Lawrence tripped on the hem of her Christian Dior couture gown but kept her composure, though she said later that an expletive was going through her head. (Trying to get up those steps in a gown looks like it could be difficult for anyone. Hey, academy, how about some escorts to lend an arm?) [People]

On the red carpet, Kristen Stewart accessorized with a crutch. It was necessary, her stylist said, because a couple of days earlier the actress had cut the ball of her foot severely by accidentally stepping on broken glass. [People]

But they were only part of the story in a whole plethora of parties, before and after the ceremony. One that might have easily slipped past the radar was the fete kicking off an exhibition of the work of famed photographer Mario Testino at the Prism Gallery in Los Angeles on Saturday (with an after-party at the Fleur de Lys estate in Beverly Hills). Supermodel Gisele Bundchen hosted with guests from the arts, fashion and entertainment worlds, including Miley Cyrus, Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova, Whitney Cummings, Cameron Silver, Marisa Tomei, Danny Huston, Dree Hemingway and many more. Other parties included the Women in Film salute to female Academy Awards nominees on Friday, a reception at the British consul general’s Los Angeles residence that evening and Vanity Fair’s “Una Notte Verde” co-hosted by Ron Howard and Hans Zimmer at Cecconi’s Restaurant in West Hollywood on Thursday (one in a series of charitable affairs Vanity Fair threw all week as part of its Campaign Hollywood). On Thursday at Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood luncheon, Oprah Winfrey accepted the Essence Power Award with tears in her eyes. [Society News LA]

And after the awards on the big night itself, winners and nominees could choose from a variety of after-parties, including the Vanity Fair party, Elton John’s Oscars party and the academy’s Governors Ball. [ABC News]

Meanwhile, Oscars aside, Karl Lagerfeld plans to live-stream the grand-opening party for his new boutique on Boulevard Saint-Germain during Paris Fashion Week. [WWD]
