Kim Kardashian, Carmen Dell’Orefice make splash at Rolland

PARIS -- The spring-summer 2013 Paris haute couture shows this week have attracted princesses, Hollywood A-listers, socialites and the world’s fashion journalists. But none of them caused a greater commotion than Kim Kardashian when she arrived for Stephane Rolland’s presentation Tuesday.

Given the multitude of photographers racing alongside at the Palais de Tokyo museum, no one could have missed her entrance. Since Kardashian has been tweeting pictures of herself in Rolland fashions that were taken for the Saudi Arabian magazine Hia, her attendance was expected and the paparazzi awaited en masse.

Last week, the reality TV star blogged, “My cover shoot for Hia Magazine was unlike any I had done before! Working with Stephane Rolland was such an honor. I loved how his couture creations brought a modern twist to old school glamour.”

That old-school glamour continued in Paris, not just in the fashions but in the show as well. This season, Rolland fused his signature sleek gowns and jumpsuits with classical music. White-robed violinists, looking like angels, played from atop podiums between sections of the grandstands, as models strode out in the nearly all white collection, reminiscent of contemporary art.

Rolland’s choice of brides, the traditional couture finale, always comes as a surprise. Last season, there was Chinese superstar Fan Bing Bing; the season before, the striking model Yasmin Le Bon (who was there to watch the show Tuesday).

The designer didn’t disappoint the audience this year either. At 81, the legendary model Carmen Dell’Orefice strode down the hall in a bridal tuxedo, proving that one can indeed grow more beautiful with each passing year.
