GQ magazine announced its 2013 best new menswear designers in America on Thursday, a list that includes Venice, Calif.-based Paige Mycoskie (sister of Toms Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie) for her après-surf, Southern California-inspired Aviator Nation label.

The rest of the list includes Kansas City’s Matt Baldwin for his eponymous Baldwin label, a casual collection that includes denim, button-fronts, T-shirts and camouflage chinos, New York designers and brothers Liam and Sam Fayed (whose father owns the Turnbull & Asser brand) for their Bespoken line of made-to-measure dress shirts and a full range of off-the-peg pieces, and Ernest Alexander Sabine for his made-in-the-U.S.A. label Ernest Alexander, a line of rugged waxwear bags, workwear-inspired button-fronts and small leather goods.

Launched in 2007, GQ’s best new menswear designers in America program has recognized the likes of Engineered Garments’ designer Daiki Suzuki (2008), Robert Geller (2009), Billy Reid (2010) and Alexander Wang (2011).

Starting last year, the magazine decided to choose multiple winners instead of picking one from a field of finalists, so 2012 had a half-dozen winners including Johan Lindeberg for his BLK DNM label, Ian Velardi, Mark McNairy for his Mark McNairy New Amsterdam collection, Shimon and Ariel Ovadia for their Ovadia & Sons line, Saturdays (designed by Morgan Collett, Josh Rosen and Colin Tunstall) and Todd Snyder (who just Wednesday was announced as a 2013 nominee for the CFDA’s Swarovski Award for emerging menswear talent).

The honor from the men’s fashion and style glossy comes with some perks including a GQ-led mentoring program and the opportunity to create pieces for a limited-edition Gap collection that will hit retail in the fall and be featured in the magazine’s October 2013 issue.
