Adolfo Suaya opens the Phoenix on La Cienega

Share

Adolfo Suaya, a longtime player on the nightlife and restaurant scene, has placed his bets on La Cienega Boulevard’s bustling restaurant row to open a new casual bar called the Phoenix.

For the project, which opened a week ago, Suaya teamed up with the Surly Goat crew, including Ryan Sweeney, who curated a nice craft beer list. He also rejoined forces with Lonnie Moore and Mike Malin of the Dolce Group, with whom he opened the celebrity-backed Dolce restaurant eight years ago.

The Phoenix is the only straight-up bar in an area swimming in upscale restaurant and hotel bars, so Suaya hopes that it will be a place where the neighborhood comes to relax and have fun. In addition to a game room with a pool table and shuffle board, there is a small stage for live music and karaoke.

There is exactly one item on the menu and that’s steak frites. Chef Larry Greenwood (Boho, STK) says that he’s got the item down to a science and has even perfected a secret Dijon sauce for it. The dish goes for a very reasonable $14.95 and is big enough to split.
