Meet GQ’s fashion week intern -- Rajon Rondo

Share

NEW YORK -- Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo and Miami Heat power forward Chris Bosh were both courtside – sorry, front row – at the Duckie Brown menswear runway show that unspooled Thursday, the first full day of New York Fashion Week.

Afterward we caught up with Rondo, who told us he’d just taken in his first fashion show – ever. What was his take-away? “Boy, it went by really fast,” he said.

Being as he was new to the fashion show scene, we wondered aloud if it would be unfair to ask him if there was anything from Duckie Brown’s spring-summer 2013 collection of voluminous denim trousers, open back jackets, plaid coveralls and strappy leather shoulder harnesses he might see himself wearing.

“Of that? Yeah, that’s unfair.”

At that very moment we agreed – but we would certainly have pressed him for an answer had we checked our BlackBerry and found the media alert from GQ magazine announcing that Rondo would be serving as “fashion week intern,” effective Thursday, for the men’s style bible.

According to the announcement, “Rondo will be working closely with GQ’s fashion department, led by Jim Moore, the magazine’s creative director … attending fashion shows with GQ editors and will be writing about his experience for GQ.com.” (No mention was made of Bosh. Perhaps we’ll hear from Esquire magazine shortly.)

Golf claps and kudos to GQ for a well-played publicity stunt -- and it might just be the first time in fashion week history that an intern is guaranteed a front-row seat, no questions asked.
