Want a $149 single-cup coffee maker? CB&TL is giving them away Sunday

Share

Have you been hankering for one of those fancy single-cup coffee makers, but are balking at their hefty price tag? Well, listen up:

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is celebrating National Coffee Day on Sunday by giving away more than 2,500 of their single-cup Americano coffee makers, which are normally priced at $149.95. The giveaway takes place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The first 250 people in line will also get a free milk frother, valued at $49.99, while supplies last.

All you have to do is turn in a working coffee maker -- new or used, as long as it’s a model with a plug-in cord. CB&TL will turn these coffee makers over to Goodwill Enterprises.

“People call up and say ‘What’s the catch?’ There is no catch,” said a media representative who declined to be identified by name. “This is just a way for Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to say thank you to Southern California.”

There is some fine print: It’s one trade per person over the age of 13. The giveaway coffee maker is available only in black. And, of course, the new coffee maker will only run on single-serving pods, which CB&TL is more than happy to supply. In fact, they’re offering a promotional deal Sunday: Three 16-count capsule boxes for $20.

The So Cal-based company, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, will also serve free coffee for guests in line starting at 6 a.m. The trade-in begins at 8 a.m. and will run until 2 p.m., or until supplies run out. Last year’s giveaway, which took place in Los Angeles, pulled in about 3,000 people -- see photo above -- and more are expected this year because of the ample parking available at Angel Stadium.

Now, if you’re already scheming about running off to Target or Costco and buying the cheapest coffee maker you can find to get the upgrade, there’s no need to slink about or feel a little shady.

“That’s exactly what people do. They show up with coffee makers that are still in the box,” the CB&TL representative said.
