Patchwork Show, Evan Kleiman talks, Mendocino Farms in Sherman Oaks

The Patchwork Show will hold an edible edition of its modern handmade festival in Costa Mesa on Saturday and Sunday. There will be cooking demonstrations, including one on how to make sriracha with cookbook author Randy Clemens, panels on pairing food and coffee and tea, how to pickle food, a craft cocktail crash course and more hands-on workshops. Evan Kleiman and Ruth Reichl will moderate a discussion on California cuisine, what it is and why it matters Oct. 13. They will be joined on a panel by chefs Roy Choi (Kogi BBQ truck), Joyce Goldstein (Square One), Eduardo Ruiz (Corazon y Miel), Nancy Silverton (La Brea Bakery), and Sang Yoon (Father’s Office). The discussion was inspired by the release of Goldstein’s book “Inside the California Food Revolution: Thirty Years that Changed our Culinary Consciousness.” The talk will take place at New Roads School’s Ann and Jerry Moss Theater in Santa Monica. Mendocino Farms, the popular sandwich chain is opening a location in Sherman Oaks on Oct. 10. The new 3,000-square-foot location will feature an open kitchen and a kids’ corner with a communal table and chalkboard walls. The menu will stay consistent with the other Mendocino Farms locations and feature items such as the Ham and Mac Grilled Cheese, BBQ Pulled Pork and more. To celebrate the opening, the restaurant will host a Family Fun Day on Oct. 26 with face painting, a photo booth, arts and crafts and more.
