An upgraded Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX opened to the public Wednesday, the result of a $2-billion phase in the airport’s modernization plan to install new technology, gates and more than 60 shops and eateries. The grand opening unveiled five new gates and the great hall.

Still to come this year is the debut of 31 new dining options (most only accessible after passing security), including Ink.Sack sandwiches from Michael Voltaggio and Border Grill from Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken. The 150,000-square-foot great hall will include a mezzanine lounge with sweeping views and a dining terrace.

Also slated to open are Umami Burger, LA Mill Coffee, Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne’s Larder at Tavern, 800 Degrees Pizza, Chaya, Luckyfish and Patrossian Caviar & Champagne Bar. Eighteen of the 31 concepts are new to airports and 17 are local L.A. brands.

The list also includes III Forks, a 6,000-square-foot steakhouse; Vino Volo wines and small plates; Short Cake bakery; James’ Beach; Vanilla Bake Shop; and a Starbucks Evenings, which offers a selection of wines and light dishes.

The new restaurants, wine bars, coffee shops and bakeries will draw customers from among the millions of passengers who travel through Los Angeles International Airport each year. Last year, nearly 64 million passengers traveled through LAX, about 10 million of them via the Tom Bradley terminal.
