Coming to the Taste: Susan Feniger

Susan Feniger’s passion for food has deep roots in the Los Angeles dining scene. She and business partner Mary Sue Milliken opened their first restaurant, City Cafe, in 1981. Today, they share the Border Grill restaurants while Feniger on her own runs Street.

As part of the legendary Too Hot Tamales, Feniger and Milliken were among the Food Network’s first breakout stars. In addition, she has appeared on “Top Chef Masters” and has written many cookbooks with Milliken and also is the solo author of her newest, called “Street Food”.

With her restaurant Street, Feniger explores a world of authentic flavors and does it in a casual, neighborhood-style restaurant.

“It’s more important to me to serve a delicious dish in a comfortable, vibrant environment, than it is to do something formal,” she told The Times’ Rene Lynch. “I’m way more drawn to this idea, conceptually, that you have people who are from all walks of life enjoying the same exact thing. There’s something to seeing someone with no money enjoying the same exact thing as someone with a bunch of money.”

Feniger will be doing a cooking demonstration at the Flavors of LA portion of the Taste on Sunday. Tickets are $65 and are available on the website.
