Tour swanky Long Beach digs that the Rat Pack would’ve loved

Explore the timeless appeal of Long Beach’s midcentury modern architecture during a self-driven home tour on Oct. 15.

The tour will highlight nine modern homes designed by a noteworthy group of architects: Hugh Davies, Edward Killingsworth, George Montierth, Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano and Cliff May, often referred to as the father of the California ranch house. It is sponsored by the University Art Museum at Cal State Long Beach.

A Rat Pack VIP Party featuring food, drink and synchronized swimming will follow the tour from 5 to 8 p.m. at a Killingsworth residence in Park Estates. Tickets are $125. Ending the day will be entertainer Charles Phoenix, with a performance at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45. Discounted packages are available.

Proceeds from the tour and party will benefit the forthcoming exhibition “Frank Bros.: The Store that Modernized Modern,” on view from Jan. 28 through April 16.The Long Beach retailer furnished nearly half of the Case Study Houses for Arts & Architecture Magazine.
