Holiday wreaths that reflect the sunny Southern California style

What we lack in Los Angeles by way of winter wonderlands, we more than make up for in wild foliage and succulents that, in the hands of the city’s more creative florists, are transformed into holiday wreaths with a distinctly Southern California flair. Here’s a sampling of some of the most creative offerings of the season.

Bloom & Plume, Echo Park

A former window display manager for Barneys, Bloom & Plume’s Maurice Harris describes his luxurious and opulent arrangements as “the Lanvin of flowers.” For wreaths this season, he’s seeing gray — think silver dollar eucalyptus, cedar, pine and environmentally correct faux antlers. Wreaths start at $150., (323) 515-2928

Botany Flowers, Santa Monica and Pasadena

Owner Stephanie Schur is known for her enchanting floral designs that are a favorite with clients such as Soho House and Goop. Her handmade wreaths have individual personalities and are customizable with details such as cut fruit, rare greenery and elegant swags.Wreaths start at $85., (310) 394-0358, (626) 792-9650

Hollyflora, Culver City

When it comes to their beautiful, organic loose wreaths, florists Holly Vesecky and Rebecca Uchtman were inspired more by texture than tradition. Vesecky takes trips to her orchard in Ojai to collect lichen, branches, oak leaves and berries, which she likes to mix with hemlock branches and vintage bells she found on a recent trip to Santa Cruz to create a “foresty vibe.” Wreaths start at $75., (323) 591-1120

Lily Lodge, Los Angeles

Lily Lodge, whose fashionable clientele includes Tom Ford, Commune Design and Johnny Depp, is a standout in wreath couture. The boutique’s elegant wreaths often have a vintage, Victorian aesthetic with pomegranates, red broomcorn and more. “With every wreath, I try to think about the personality and the home,” says owner Ariana Lambert Smeraldo. Create your own at Lily Lodge’s custom wreath party Dec. 8. Wreaths start at $75., (310) 360-9400

Moon Canyon Design, Echo Park

“Wild” and “romantic” best describe the wreaths from Kristen Cassie of Moon Canyon Design. “I was inspired by a classic, woodsy holiday,” says Cassie, who combined oversized pine cones, chocolate sunflowers, snowberries and wild foliage to create arrangements that will be sold at a pop-up at Jenni Kayne’s Almont Drive store in West Hollywood on Dec. 5 and 6. Wreaths start at $150. Also available through, (617) 304-9949

Yasmine Floral Design, Los Angeles

Yasmine Mei’s designs are feminine and classical, with an aesthetic of Old World through a SoCal lens. “I was inspired by wreath illustrations from several hundred years ago, which is how I got interested in using citrus,” Mei says. This year her holiday wreaths will feature kumquats, pomegranates, millet and other edibles. Visit Individual Medley Store for a wreath-making pop-up on Dec. 13 and 14. Wreaths start at $50., (949) 233-9515
