Some Trains Canceled, Others Combined
Some trains were canceled and others are to be combined today out of Los Angeles because of the fatal commuter train crash in Glendale, authorities said.
According to a recording at Metrolink, trains 115 and 215 will be combined and will depart from Union Station at 5:10 p.m. At Glendale, passengers will be bused to Burbank, where they can board their regular trains for Lancaster or Ventura County.
Trains 119 and 219 are to depart from Union Station at 6:40 p.m. At Glendale, passengers will be bused to Burbank to meet their regular trains.
Trains 221 at 7:35 p.m. and 223 at 9 p.m. from Union Station will be replaced by buses from Union Station to Lancaster, making all local stops.
The other trains were canceled on the Antelope Valley and Ventura County lines, the Metrolink customer service line reported.
All other lines were running as scheduled.
On the highways, the northbound and southbound off ramps of Interstate 5 will be closed at Los Feliz Boulevard during the evening rush hours, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said the closures will keep people from getting too close to the crash site. At midday, traffic was slightly heavier in the area, but the site cannot be seen from the highway, he said.
Also closed today in Glendale were sections of Chevy Chase Drive west of San Fernando Road and a section of San Fernando Road north and south of Chevy Chase Drive, the Glendale police reported.
It was uncertain how long the closures would remain in effect.
