Students plan to march out of schools nationwide

Students nationwide are planning to leave school today to participate in a nationwide walkout against gun violence. Organizers chose March 14 because it is one month to the day since a gunman killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. The protest is slated to last for 17 minutes.
Organizers have a list of demands for Congress, including a ban on assault-style weapons and expanded background checks. They oppose the use of guns to protect schools. A group called Empower, the youth arm of the Women’s March, is doing much of the national organizing, and providing tool kits to students who want to participate.
In Los Angeles, school administrators have urged students to stay on campus.
