L.A. riot profiles: In the April 22 Section A, an article consisting of eight short profiles of key figures connected to the 1992 Los Angeles riots said that Rodney G. King was struck more than 50 times by Los Angeles Police Department officers as he was handcuffed on the ground. In fact, King was not handcuffed while officers struck him. The article, compiled by the Times staff, drew the erroneous assertion from a story published March 6, 1992.

Synthetic DNA: An April 21 article in Section A about scientists’ studies of synthetic DNA said that viruses used only RNA to store genetic information. In fact, some viruses encode genetic instructions in DNA, like nearly all organisms on Earth.

“The Sound of Music” children: In the April 21 Calendar section, an article about the seven actors who played the Von Trapp children in the 1965 film “The Sound of Music” said that only one of them, Nicholas Hammond, is still working in show business. In fact, another of them, Kym Karath, developed and hosted a program for cable channel JLTV, “Bouncing Back,” about people overcoming adversity, and is working on a second episode.
